Before CSI and Dexter came along and made Americans immune to the gut-punch of a crime scene, photographers captured the drama of bodies and bullet holes for a scandal-hungry public. Here, the scenes of notorious crimes taken sometimes only moments after the fact — Crime Scenes: Infamous and Grisly Pictured: Inside Gein’s filthy, cluttered kitchen, police found several bowls that had been fashioned out of human skulls. (Further inspection turned up four human noses, nine masks made of human skin, and a pair of lips on a draw string for a windowshade.)
